LEXINGTON ? Duke Hashimoto headed home the game-winning goal with three seconds on the clock to lift SMU to an improbable 2-1 victory over Kentucky on Sunday afternoon at the UK Soccer Complex.

With the game knotted at 1-1 and 25 seconds left, Michael D?Agostino lined up for a free kick in the offensive third of the field. His serve was quickly cleared out and Dario Saintus broke loose for a counter attack down the right flank.

Saintus took the ball all the way to the corner before sending it in, where four Mustang players had crammed the box. Hashimoto got to it and beat goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum to the far side to seal the win.

With the win, SMU remained perfect in Conference USA action at 4-0 and improved to 6-4-1 for the year. They became the first road team to post two goals on UK since 2002, when Marshall did so in an overtime contest.

The Wildcats fell to 4-4-4 overall and 1-2-1 in league action. The loss snapped UK?s eight-game home unbeaten streak, which dated back to last season. Kentucky was attempting to score a weekend sweep of SMU and Tulsa, the teams predicted to finish 1-2 in the conference preseason poll.

Kentucky got on the board first in the third minute with a beautifully executed corner kick. D?Agostino served a perfect ball to Thomas Senecal, who buried it with an easy header.

The game changed in the 54th minute when Riley O?Neill was sent off, leaving Kentucky a man down for the game?s final 36 minutes. After battling evenly up that point, the Mustangs took control and outshot UK 11-6 down the stretch.

The advantage paid off in the 62nd minute as Jay Needham?s free kick from 25 yards out slipped just inside the left post to tie the game.

The loss marked the second loss for UK when scoring first this year. After posting a 21-1-2 mark from 2003-04 when scoring first, the Wildcats are just 1-2-2 the last five times they have netted the opening goal.

Kentucky returns to action on Friday at 7 p.m. when it travels to Columbia, S.C., to square off with South Carolina.
