LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The University of Kentucky women?s golf team returns to the links Sunday as it travels to Rogers, Ark., to participate in the eighth annual Tyson/Embassy Suites Invitational. The three-day, 16-team event is being hosted by the University of Arkansas at the Pinnacle Country Club. Play begins at 8:30 a.m. each day. Live stats will be available at golfstat.com
This is the first appearance in the Tyson/Embassy Suites Invitational for the Wildcats, who have posted two top-five team finishes in their three tournaments this season. The Cats finished second at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup and fourth at the Wildcat Fall Invitational. Last weekend, Kentucky finished tied for 16th place at the University of North Carolina?s Lady Tar Heel Invite.
?We struggled a little bit last weekend with bad weather conditions,? UK head coach Stephanie Barker said. ?But our goal at the beginning of the season was to break 300 at least one day each tournament and we have been able to do that on a consistent basis. If we continue to do the things that have helped us to be successful, we will do well.?
The participating teams in the Tyson/Embassy Suites Invitational are: No. 2 Arkansas, Augusta State, Illinois State, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oral Roberts, Southern Mississippi, Southwest Missouri State, Wichita State and Wisconsin.
Host Arkansas has won the tournament three times since its inception and the Lady Backs finished third at last year?s event. Iowa State took home the tournament crown last season with a three-day total of 905 (297-304-304).
