The Kentucky women?s swimming and diving team defeated Arkansas by a score of 150-120 Saturday to register the team?s first Southeastern Conference victory of they year. The Cats (2-2, 1-1 SEC) upped their all-time series record against the Ladybacks to 10-1.
UK was led by sophomore Lindsay Myhre, who captured two events, as the team won nine events overall. Myhre, a native of Aurora, Colo., claimed victory in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. This meet marked the second time this season Myhre claimed victory in the 100 breaststroke, accomplishing the feat in the season-opener against Illinois.
Kentucky also got strong performances out of Kelly Rames, who won the 200 butterfly event for the fourth straight meet, and Joey Brown, who finished ahead of fellow Wildcat Kari Retrum to win the 1-meter diving event. The Cats have now claimed a victory in at least one diving event in every meet that the women have competed in this season.
?It?s always good to get a win in the SEC,? head coach Gary Conelly said. “On the swimming side we got a great performance out of Lindsay Myhre and on the diving side Joey Brown really performed well.?
The Wildcats will now be off for the rest December. The team will continue to practice throughout the month and return to competition on Jan. 3 when they travel to Ft. Pierce Fla., to take on Clemson.
