More honors are in for Kentucky linebacker Braxton Kelley, who has been named Freshman All-Southeastern Conference and third-team Freshman All-America by The Sporting News
Kelley totaled 44 tackles in the 2005 season, including two for loss, caused one fumble, and had one pass breakup. He had a season high of 11 tackles against Florida. He started the first seven games of the season, and was leading all SEC freshmen in tackles, before sustaining a season-ending knee injury against Mississippi State. When Kelley started vs. Louisville, he became the first UK freshman to start a season opener at linebacker, based on lineups available since 1993.
Kelley is a true freshman out of LaGrange (Ga.) High School. This marks the second-consecutive season that a Wildcat from LaGrange was named Freshman All-SEC. Former LaGrange standout Wesley Woodyard was a Freshman All-SEC linebacker a year ago.
Kelley also has been named second-team Freshman All-America by Rivals.com and was tabbed for the Freshman All-SEC team by the league?s coaches. He was chosen UK?s Outstanding First-Year Player by the Wildcat coaches.
Coach Rich Brooks has had at least one freshman All-American in his three years at Kentucky, following Lamar Mills and Durrell White (2003) and Ricky Abren (2004).
Former Wildcat Named to Gatton College Hall of Fame: Congratulations to Kenneth Robertson, a former Wildcat football player who has been inducted into the University of Kentucky Gatton College of Business and Economics Alumni Hall of Fame.
Robertson earned his bachelor?s degree in civil engineering and his master?s in business administration at UK before joining Esso Oil Company in 1960 as an engineer. He stayed with the company for more than 40 years, eventually rising to the position of senior vice president, before retiring from ExxonMobil Corporation in 2001.
Robertson was a three-year letterman from 1955-57 as a quarterback/defensive back under Coach Blanton Collier. He was elected team co-captain his senior season and led the Wildcats in pass interceptions that year.
Robertson continues to serve the university as chair of the Gatton College Business Partnership Foundation Board.
