TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ? The Kentucky swimming and diving squads completed a successful day Saturday with both squads sweeping Southeastern Conference foes Alabama and LSU in a dual meet in the Alabama Aquatics Center. The UK teams were competing in their second meet in as many days, having to rebound from losses at Georgia on Friday.
The Wildcat women (5-3, 3-2 SEC) defeated the Tigers 68-44 and the Crimson Tide 65-47. The UK men (4-2, 2-2 SEC) topped Alabama 63-50 and LSU 66-46.
The UK women claimed the 400-yard medley relay to open the meet. The relay team, consisting of sophomores Heather Bradford (Groveport, Ohio), Jenny Bradford (Groveport, Ohio), Lindsay Myhre (Aurora, Colo.) and Jill Southerlan (Fairfax, Va.), finished first with a final time of 3:49.05.
Senior Brennan Moore (Spartanburg, S.C.) captured the women?s 1,000-yard freestyle, while freshman Kelly Rames (Duluth, Ga.) finished third in the event.
On the men?s side, senior Steven Manley (Dublin, Ireland) took home the 200-yard freestyle, while freshman James Batley (Somerset, England) finished third. Manley also captured the 200-yard IM and the 500-yard freestyle.
UK swimmers captured the 50-yard freestyle on both the men?s and women?s sides. Jenny Bradford won the women?s title, while senior Daniel Farnham (Mount Berry, Ga.) won the men?s event.
Both squads also won the 200-yard butterfly and the 100-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard butterfly, Rames captured the women?s event and sophomore Grant Nelson (Tampa, Fla.) won on the men?s side. In the 100-yard freestyle, Jenny Bradford won for the women and Farnham for the men.
Freshman Justin Smith (Lynwood, Ill.) won the men?s 1-meter diving competition, while junior Taryn Ignacio (Richmond, Ky.) took the women?s 3-meter competition.
Kentucky returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 14, when it returns home to play host to South Carolina. Meet time is set for 1 p.m. EST in the Lancaster Aquatics Center.
