Kentucky offensive coordinator Joker Phillips has received recognition from two sources for his work in recruiting.

Phillips was mentioned in an article by Stewart Mandel of CNNSI.com. Mandel selected his top-10 college recruiters, then added ?10 more of the best in the business,? a list that included Phillips. Jeremy Crabtree, recruiting editor of Rivals.com, mentioned Phillips in an article on the nation?s top recruiters.

Phillips also was busy the week before Christmas as a head coach during the inaugural Magnolia Classic All-Star Game for college seniors. Played on Dec. 24 in Jackson, Miss., Phillips? White team defeated the Red, 17-9.

Cook Named to ESPN ?All-Mayday? Team: Senior wide receiver Tommy Cook was named to the ESPN ?All-Mayday? Team, a list of college players who showed tremendous toughness and determination during the 2005 season.

The list was compiled by Mark May and Brett Edgerton of ESPN and each player was featured during ESPN?s ?Bowl Week.?

Cook?s mention could have been a lifetime achievement award, given the injuries through which he persevered during his collegiate career. For example:

Redshirted his freshman season in 2000 with four broken bones in hand Broke his leg in the final game of the 2002 season; had surgery that inserted a plate and 12 screws which still remain in his leg Summer of 2003 had surgery for sports hernia During preseason practice in 2003, had surgery to remove bone spurs in ankle, missed season opener In the 2004 spring game, he tore the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus (cartilage) in his knee; this injury required two surgeries, May and June 2004 NCAA awarded him a sixth year to complete his eligibility Sustained dislocated kneecap in second game of 2005 season; missed three games, then returned to finish the season Despite all these injuries, his career totals featured 74 catches for 951 yards and six TDs ?To me, Tommy Cook is the epitome of college football, what he?s gone through to get back on the field,? Kentucky Coach Rich Brooks said. ?He?s the example for what I hope Kentucky football will stand for ? toughness, dedication, a sense of purpose. Not many young people would have gone through what he?s gone through to keep playing a sport as tough as college football.?
