LEXINGTON – The University of Kentucky gymnastics team will host its Southeastern Conference opener vs. Auburn, Friday, at 7:30 p.m., in Memorial Coliseum. The event has been designated Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness Meet. Fans are encouraged to show their support by wearing pink. Susan G. Komen t-shirts, pins and pink rubber band bracelets will be handed out to Wildcat fans. Portions of each team?s uniforms will be pink while coaches will don a pink article of clothing as well. Donations to the cause will be accepted at the Susan G. Komen information table located on the West Concourse.

Last weekend, a sold out crowd witnessed the Cats (3-0) defeat Illinois State and Southeast Missouri State at the 23rd annual ?Excite Nite?. Freshman Natalie Rubinstein and junior Krystle Cook tied for first in the all-around competition.

This weekend, the Cats enter the meet ranked 15th nationally. As a team, UK ranks ninth on beam, tied for 13th on floor, 15th on vault and 23rd on bars. Individually, Cook ranks fourth on vault and tied for 17th on bars, while sophomores Kristen O?Shields (14th) and Crissy Cannon (45th) both earned praise on beam.

Tickets for the event are $5 for adults with $2 tickets available for youth and seniors. Children up to the age of five get in free.
