Lexington, Ky. – The No. 19 Kentucky men?s tennis team will face off against No. 15 Ohio State Sunday at 1 p.m. EST at the Lexington Tennis Club.
The Cats (2-0) are coming off a pair of wins Wednesday against Austin Peay and Butler and will do battle with their first ranked opponent this season. The Buckeyes are 4-0 in the early going and are coming off wins against No. 42 Oklahoma and 17th-ranked Tennessee. OSU boasts the No. 2 doubles tandem of Scott Green and Ross Wilson who won the doubles title at the 2005 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships. OSU will also come to town with three ranked singles players in No. 37 Chris Klingemann, No. 56 Devin Mullings and No. 80 Scott Green.
Kentucky will enter the match with three ranked singles players of their own. Freshman Bruno Agostinelli enters the OSU match as the highest ranked Wildcat at No. 48. In Agostinelli?s first dual match at UK, the Niagara Falls, Canada, native defeated Butler?s James Low in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
Senior Alex Hume, the nation?s 61st-ranked player, will bring his three match winning streak into Sunday?s action. On Wednesday, Hume dominated Butler?s Brandon Gill 6-2, 6-1.
Rounding out UK?s ranked threesome is senior Nate Emge. The No. 83 Emge is coming off a hard fought 6-4, 7-6 (5), win over the Bulldogs’ Andy Bartish. Emge also teams with Hume to be the 40th-ranked doubles duo in the country.
“We are really looking forward to facing OSU,” head coach Dennis Emery said. “Ohio State is a really good team that has been to the Elite of Eight of the NCAA tournament. I look forward to seeing how our young team steps up and competes.”
