STATESBORO, Ga. ? The University of Kentucky men?s golf team turned in a solid performance today, Mar. 18, in the opening day of Georgia State?s Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. The Wildcats carded a two-round score of 573 (285-288) to stand in second place, just four strokes behind North Carolina at 569 (291-278).
The Tarheels are seven-under heading into the final round of play, while Kentucky is not far behind with a three-under 573. Auburn and Tennessee finished tied for third at even par, 576. Florida rounds out the top five with a score of 578.
Brad Doster leads the Wildcats with his second-place score of 139 (69-70). Doster had three birdies in the second round to close the gap on Michigan State?s Matt Harmon who currently leads the field with seven-under par total of 137 (68-69).
Matt Kohn is also in the top 10 as the senior is tied for 10th with a score of 143 (71-72) through the first two rounds. Andy Winings follows with a score of 144 (73-71) to tie for 17th in the individual standings. Dan Woltman and Tyler Wilson round out the scoring for the Wildcats after firing day-one totals of 147 and 152, respectively.
The Wildcats? second-place standing ranks them ahead of six other Southeastern Conference schools after the first day of play. Through two rounds, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina, Alabama and LSU all trail the Cats.
The final-round play begins Sunday morning with the first group teeing off at 8:00 a.m. at Forest Heights Country Club.
