AWENDAW, S.C. ? The University of Kentucky men?s golf team is currently fifth after one round of play at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Collegiate Invitational in Awendaw, S.C. The No. 18 Wildcats posted a team score of 292 to finish eight-over par and 17 strokes behind Wake Forest who leads the 15-team field with a score of 275 (-9).
Host-team South Carolina is second with a score of 279, followed by North Carolina with a team total of 288. Central Florida holds fourth place with a total of 289, while Kentucky rounds out the top five with its score of 292.
USC?s Erik Tage Johansen and Wake?s Doug Manchester are tied for the individual lead after both fired a four-under par 67.
Andy Winings leads the Wildcats and is currently tied for sixth overall. The freshman shot his lowest round of the spring season with a one-under par 70. Winings had four birdies on the back nine to give him five for the round. Fellow freshman Dan Woltman birdied four holes and is tied for 19th with his score of 72 (+1). Senior Matt Kohn, who finished fifth in this event last year, is tied for 25th after he fired a first-round 73. Mark Erlewine and reigning Southeastern Conference Player of the Week Brad Doster are tied for 59th with identical scores of 77. Doster and Kohn each eagled the five-par 10th hole in the opening round of play.
The three-day tournament continues with the second round on Monday, Mar. 27, at the Bulls Bay Golf Club. Tee time is set for 10 a.m.
