Coming off a strong showing at the Big Orange Tournament this past weekend, the Kentucky Volleyball team returns home to face in-state foe Morehead State on Tuesday. Opening serve in Memorial Coliseum is set for 7 p.m.
The Wildcats (3-1) went 2-1 in the Big Orange Tournament, sweeping Siena and host Syracuse before falling to San Diego State in a hard-fought five-game thriller. The Cats are led by junior middle blocker Nicole Britenriker (Cincinnati, Ohio), who is averaging a team-leading 4.29 kills per game. Britenriker tallied a career-high 25 put-downs in Kentucky?s loss to SDSU.
Kentucky and Morehead State meet for the 29th time in school history Tuesday with the Wildcats leading the all-time series 21-7. The Cats have won 18 consecutive matches over the Eagles and are 70-39 (.642) all time vs. foes from within the Bluegrass State.
The match marks the first of a six-match homestand that includes the annual Kentucky Classic this Friday and Saturday, as well as the opening weekend of the Southeastern Conference slate.
The Eagles enter Tuesday?s match with a 4-2 record after opening the season with three consecutive wins over Coastal Carolina, UAB and SEC rival Georgia. Morehead State took one of three matches in the Mizuno Wildcat Classic hosted by Davidson this past weekend. The Eagles defeated the host school, but fell to Portland and third-ranked Washington.
Morehead State is coached by former Kentucky assistant Jaime Gordon (1993-94, 1999-02), who has compiled a record of 40-59 in his fourth season at the helm of the Eagles program.
