Usually, when the Kentucky women?s soccer team gets together at 7:00 a.m., it has to do with weights or training. However, early this morning it was a different story as the team in conjunction with SAFE KIDS Coalition participated in Walk to School day.
The team, along with SAFE KIDS members and the Wildcat got together with a large group of students from Julius Marks Elementary and walked them to school. Coffee, water and fruit was provided for all walkers and upon arrival at Julius Marks the soccer team, along with the Wildcat mingled and played with the students prior to the start of the school day.
?It?s important that the girls get involved with the community in taking advantage of such opportunities,? said head women?s soccer coach Warren Lipka. ?We look forward to being a part of these programs in the future.?
Safe Kids Fayette County, led by Kentucky Children?s Hospital, is part of Safe Kids Worldwide, the first and only national nonprofit organization dedicated solely to the prevention of unintentional childhood injury ? the number one killer of children ages 14 and under. More than 300 state and local Safe Kids coalitions in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico make up the coalition.
