Women's Basketball

University of Kentucky sophomore LaQwesha ?Moe? Gamble, of Winter Haven, Fla., has decided to leave the women?s basketball program, Coach Mickie DeMoss announced Friday. Gamble is unsure of her future plans.

Gamble, a 6-0 guard/forward, saw limited action in six of seven games this season, averaging 1.5 points and 1.0 rebounds per game in 5.5 minutes per game.

?Moe has been homesick for a while,? DeMoss said. ?We tried to work things out but basically she wants to get closer to home and her family. We want her to be happy, that?s the main thing.?

Gamble appeared in 21 of UK’s 31 games as a freshman. She averaged 1.6 points and 1.4 rebounds per game while averaging 6.7 minutes per game.

Prior to her collegiate career, Gamble was named Florida’s “Miss Basketball” after averaging 10.7 points, 14.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.9 steals per game her senior season. She led the Blue Devils to the 2005 Class 4A State Championship and a 28-1 record.

Kentucky returns to action Friday, Dec. 8 in Memorial Coliseum vs. Alabama State. Game time is 7 p.m. EST and it will be televised live on BBSN and FSN South.
