WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind?The Kentucky men?s tennis team went winless in singles action, but picked up one doubles win on its opening day of competition in the Boilermaker Invitational at the Schwartz Tennis Center Saturday.
The duo of sophomore Shane Collins and freshman Brian Dredge topped Western Michigan?s Milan Petercak and Kevin Hawyard at No. 3 doubles, 8-4, for Kentucky?s lone win of the day.
Kentucky?s singles and doubles players faced a an individual flighted tournament match with Western Michigan in the opening day of the three-day event. Senior Peter Bjork faced No. 52 Brady Crosby and fell in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 at No.1 singles.
Junior Marcus Sundh took the opening set 6-1, before dropping the second two sets to Tim Bradshaw, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Collins also claimed the first set of competition, 6-4 over Milan Petercak at No. 3 singles. Petercak roared back with a 6-0 second set. He took the match with a 7-5 third set win.
Kentucky returns to action Sunday, at 2 p.m. for the second day of competition. The Wildcats will face the host Boilermakers in a 1-6 singles format and 1-3 doubles. Results can be found at www.ukathletics.com.
