ENSENADA, Mexico–The University of Kentucky women?s golf team began its season opening spring campaign in the Baja Invitational played in Ensenada, Mexico, over the course of the past two days.
The Lady Wildcats finished 15th in the 15 team field, and struggled to shake off the rust of the off-season.
?While the team hit quite a few great shots and looked good on several holes, it seemed like we let a handful of holes cost us an unusually large number of shots,? said Coach Stephanie Barker. ?Hopefully we have shaken the rust off and will get it going for Florida State’s event in two weeks.”
Felts led the team with a 12th place showing, easily the best of any Wildcat in the 2006-07 season. Felts shot a 76-77, in the shortened tournament. Dense fog shortened round two on day one, and forced a cancellation of the third and final round.
“Beth (Felts) looks consistent and solid. If a few more putts had dropped for her this week, she would have been under par,? said Barker.
This is the third time this season Felts has led the team in scoring, and first of the spring campaign.
Kentucky returns to action in the ACC/SEC Chrysler Challenge beginning Feb. 24, in Destin, Fla., hosted by Florida State.
