Track & Field

LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the fourth time in school history, the University of Kentucky will play host to the 2007 Southeastern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 23-25 in Lexington?s E.J. Nutter Field House.

Activities in the three-day event begin at 4:30 p.m. EST Friday and continue at 10 a.m. EST on Saturday and Sunday. Live statistics will be available at ukathletics.com, and highlights from the event will be shown on a tape-delay basis by Fox Sports Net South.

?The SEC track meet is universally recognized as the best college conference competition in the country and it is every year,? UK head coach Don Weber said. ?There will be a tremendous amount of national attention paid to the SEC meet. One of the great things about having the SEC meet at the University of Kentucky is the oversized track and the ability of some of the very best people in the country to run very, very fast on our track. National rankings will be impacted by us hosting the conference meet here. It?s just exciting to be involved in having that great of a competition at our place.?

Each of the league?s 10 men?s teams (Mississippi State and Vanderbilt do not sponsor men?s indoor track) and 12 women?s teams will be participating in the prestigious meet. Considered by many to be one of the best conference meets in the nation, the SEC has dominated track and field for the past two decades. Since 1992, SEC men?s indoor teams have claimed 14 national team championships and 124 individual champions. Since 1987, SEC women?s indoor teams have won 13 national team championships and 90 individual champions.

Nutter Field House also played host to the SEC meet in 1996, 2001 and 2004.

Complete results and a recap of all the action will be available each day on ukathletics.com and secsports.com.
