LEXINGTON ? Off to the program?s best start in 20 years, the Kentucky women?s tennis team jumped eight spots to No. 23 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings, released on Tuesday.
The Wildcats own four wins over ranked opponents this year and face one of their toughest tests of the season on Friday when No. 32 LSU comes to the Boone Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. Kentucky has won four straight matches, including a 2-0 start in Southeastern Conference play, en route to its 10-1 start.
Senior Joelle Schwenk, who has won 13 of her past 14 matches, is ranked 87th in singles. She has been ranked as high as No. 60 earlier in the season. In doubles, Schwenk and partner Kim Coventry held onto the No. 2 national doubles ranking. The pair is 16-3 on the season, and won the ITA Southeast Regional on its way to a semifinal run at the National Indoor Championships.
The Wildcats match against LSU is the first of two conference tilts this weekend as UK hosts Arkansas on Sunday afternoon.
