LEXINGTON, Ky.?The No. 47 University of Kentucky men?s tennis team will hit the road for its first road trip in Southeastern Conference play this weekend. The Blue and White will first travel to face No. 15 LSU on Friday, and then play at Arkansas on Sunday.
Kentucky (7-5, 1-1) is coming off an opening weekend split where they fell to No. 37 Auburn 5-2, but then upset No. 28 Alabama.
Sophomore Shane Collins? win at No. 6 singles clinched the upset of Alabama on Sunday. Kentucky got four singles wins in the 4-3 victory after dropping the opening doubles point. Sophomore Bruno Agostinelli, senior Peter Bjork and junior Marcus Sundh were the other victors for the Wildcats.
Bjork and Sundh lead the team with a 9-3 dual match singles record. Bjork is riding an eight-match winning streak. Agostinelli leads the team with an ITA ranking of 68 in the country.
Junior Will Ward is expected to return to the lineup after missing the opening weekend. He and Bjork remain undefeated in doubles play with a perfect 6-0 record.
The Tigers (7-2, 1-1 SEC) split their first two matches of conference play last weekend. LSU defeated Tennessee, 4-3, Friday and fell to No.1 Georgia, 6-1, Sunday.
In doubles play, James Cluskey and Ken Skupski are the No. 5 rated doubles tandem in the country. Danny Bryan and Colt Gaston are ranked No. 9, to lead a potent doubles team. LSU also sports three players ranked in the top 90 in the country in singles action.
Arkansas (6-10, 0-2) last was in action against No. 13 Texas where the Razorbacks dropped a 6-1 decision. They opened SEC play last weekend and the ?Backs faced No. 1 Georgia and No. 38 Tennessee who both swept the matches 7-0.
