FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. ? The Kentucky track and field squads wrapped up the opening day of the 2007 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday in the University of Arkansas? Randal Tyson Track Center.
Sophomore thrower Ashley Muffet, the 2007 Southeastern Conference indoor women?s shot put champion, finished ninth in the finals of the women?s shot put with a toss of 53-1.75.
Freshman sprinter Jenna Martin finished fourth in her heat in the preliminaries of the women?s 400 meter run. Martin?s time of 54.22 was 15th overall in the race, failing to reach Saturday?s final.
Sprinter Luis Luna would have been the fifth qualifier in the men?s 400 meter with a time of 46.56, but was disqualified due to a lane violation.
Mid-distance runners Lavera Morris and Georganne Way each competed and posted times over 2:08 in the 800 meter dash.
Saturday?s action concludes with Kentucky?s SEC Champion 4×400 relay squad at 9:20 p.m. EST. The squad owns the second-fastest time in the country this season and also holds the school, Nutter Field House and SEC Championship meet records.
