Gadsden City High school senior Catina Bett was named the 2007 girls basketball 6A Player of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. The Kentucky signee averaged 15.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 assists per game for the Titans this season.

The 6-5 center helped lead her squad, known as 6A Gadsden City High School after a consolidation of several local high schools, to a 25-8 overall record and a Class 6A state runner-up title. She started in all 33 games and was voted Most Valuable Player of the Northeast Regional, All-Area Tournament and the state final four. She also was named to the Alabama All-Star team, helping Alabama defeat Mississippi in the All-Star game.

Last season as a junior, Bett ranked No. 2 in The Birmingham News’ Super Seniors Class of 2007 and was named an AHSAA All-Star after averaging 16.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. She was named second-team all-state in Class 5A by the Alabama Sports Writers Association and ranked as one of the nation?s top 50 players by ASGR. She also is a competitive volleyball player.

Bett chose Kentucky over Florida, Auburn, Alabama, and Mississippi State.
