LEXINGTON ? Coming off a pair of tough losses to No. 4 Georgia and No. 26 Tennessee, the Kentucky women?s tennis team dropped three spots to No. 26 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, released Tuesday.
The Wildcats are 15-3 on the season, including 6-2 in the rigorous Southeastern Conference. The two losses snapped UK?s nine-match win streak and each came on the road in tough fashion.
While the team slipped slightly, senior Joelle Schwenk jumped 12 spots in the ITA singles rankings to No. 110. She has now been ranked for six straight weeks.
Schwenk and teammate Kim Coventry continue to be among the nation?s top doubles tandem?s ranking 11th. They aren?t the only Wildcat duo to be recognized as Carolina Escamilla and Sarah Woestmann broke into the rankings for the first time at No. 57. The duo scored their first ranked win of the year by beating the Bulldogs 30th-ranked duo of Kelly Hyndman and Monka Dancevic.
Kentucky returns to action this weekend with a pair of big SEC matches. The Wildcats travel to No. 22 South Carolina on Friday before hosting No. 4 Florida on Sunday.
