LEXINGTON ? For the second straight year, the Kentucky soccer team placed more than half its squad on the Conference USA Commissioners Academic Honor Roll, scoring 15 selections this year, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Student-athletes are required to maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average or better to earn a spot on the honor roll. Those athletes who record a 3.75 GPA or better are tabbed as Conference USA Academic Medalists and that list is set to be announced Wednesday.
Headlining UK?s 15 members to the 2007 Academic Honor Roll is senior Nathan Li, Kentucky?s Boyd-McWhorter Post-Graduate Scholarship Nominee. Li was an Arthur Ashe Scholar Award winner in 2005, is a member of the UK Society of Character while also being named to the honor roll a year ago and to the SEC Academic Honor Roll three times.
Also recognized by C-USA were Andrew Alexander, Reid Baker, Ryan Blackwell, Matt Baum, Brad Frederick, Joey Grigsby, Mark Halma, Ryan Jones, Matt McAlpine, Adam Midkiff, Aaron Sheffield, Matt Troop, Masumi Turnbull and Matt Weiler.
The honorees lead a men?s soccer team that has consistently achieved great feats in the classroom, most recently earning the CATSPY for Academic Team of the Year at Kentucky to go along with its numerous NSCAA Team Academic Awards.
