PHILADELPHIA ? Sophomore Kentucky thrower Ashley Muffet (North Canton, Ohio) recorded a season-best toss of 52-6 in the women?s shot put as the Wildcats concluded their opening day in rainy conditions at the 113th annual Penn Relays. The prestigious event is being hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field.

Muffet, who is the school?s record-holder in both the indoor and outdoor shot puts, finished third in the event. Fellow thrower Gavin Ball (Cottage Grove, Wisc.) was eighth in the men?s discus championship with a toss of 164-6.

Mikel Thomas (Brooklyn, N.Y) and Geoffrey Daley (Hyattville, Md.) each competed in the 400-meter hurdles, with Thomas recording a time of 53.46 and Daley finishing with a 54.28.

The Wildcats also performed in several sprint and distance relays for the first time this outdoor season.

The Penn Relays conclude on Saturday with events beginning at 11 a.m. EDT. Complete results and a recap of UK?s action will be available at ukathletics.com.
