LEXINGTON ? Kentucky?s dynamic duo of Kim Coventry and Joelle Schwenk officially earned All-America honors on Tuesday when the NCAA Doubles Championships draw was announced in Athens, Ga.

The pair earned a top eight national seed, which guarantees them the All-America status. They are the fifth UK tandem to earn the honor in doubles since 2001 and become the ninth and 10th All-Americans in school history.

Coventry and Schwenk have been one of the nation?s most prolific duos all season, winning the ITA Southeast Regional championship before advancing to the semifinals of the National Indoor Championships in the fall. Since then, the pair was a dominant force in UK?s dual lineup, taking on some of the best team?s in the nation from their No. 1 doubles spot.

In Thursday?s first round, the pair meets Yasmin Schnack and Riza Zalameda of UCLA on the campus of the University of Georgia. The match will be a chance for Coventry to exact a small measure of revenge against Zalameda, who bounced her from the NCAA Singles Championships in a dramatic, three-set battle in last year?s second round.

It is the second time in three years Coventry and Schwenk have advanced to the NCAA Doubles Championships. In 2005, the pair suffered a first-round loss to the No. 3 seed in the draw. Last year the two did not play together and Coventry earned a spot with then-partner Carolina Escamilla, reaching round two.

The 32-team draw consists of one round per day beginning on Thursday and wrapping up with Monday?s championship. The best finish for a UK doubles pair came in 2003 when Amy Trefethen and Sarah Witten upset the nation?s No. 1 team before falling in the championship match.
