Kentucky rising junior Andy Winings of Brownsburg, Ind., claimed the title at the 107th Indiana Amateur Championship, finishing at 9 better than par at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind.
For only the eighth time in the stroke-play history of the Championship (prior to 1973 the Championship was match play format) the winner led the field for the entire 72 holes.
In an amazing four rounds that included 26 birdies ? 16 coming on the back nine ? and 33 pars, Winings finished the tournament two stokes ahead of Andrew Rhodes to win the four-day tournament.
Winings opened the event with a 66 in the opening round and matched that score in the second day of play with an identical score. He carded a 76 in the third round before finishing with a one-under par 71 in the fourth and final round. Winings finished with an impressive nine-under par 279 en route to the title.
