SAO PAULO, Brazil ? Martin ran her leg in 51.2 and her squad finished in a time of 3:38.85.
Martin, who holds 53 overall records in her home province, took the baton with her team in fifth place and surpassed two competitors, as she handed off with her team in third place. The other members of the 4×400 relay squad include Kimberly Hyacinthe, Jessica Smith and Sarah Wells. The United States squad captured the event in a time of 3:29.67.
Martin?s 4×400 relay performance came a day after she shattered her personal best and the school record in the 400-meter dash by finishing second in a time of 51.91. Martin, who is coming off of one of the finest rookie campaigns in recent school history, had previously been only one of three female sprinters in Kentucky school history to run faster than 53 seconds in the 400-meter dash before becoming the first to beat the 52-second mark.
During her freshman campaign, Martin also was part of a Kentucky 4×400 relay squad that ran the second-fastest time in school history (3:38.78) at the NCAA Mideast Regional at Columbia, Mo.
