The Kentucky men?s golf team returns to action this weekend after a two-week break from tournament play. The Wildcats travel to Jonesborough, Tenn., for the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges Golf and Country Club. The three-day event will take place Oct. 12-14 in Jonesborough.
The 15-team field includes eight teams that competed in the 2007 NCAA Championships in No. 2 South Carolina, No. 10 Auburn, No. 12 Wake Forest, No. 29 East Tennessee State, No. 32 Tennessee, North Carolina, Coastal Carolina and Vanderbilt. Kent State, Maryland, NC State, Alabama-Birmingham, Virginia and Virginia Tech make up the rest of the weekend field.
The Wildcats are coming off their best finish of the season after tying for fifth at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate on Sept. 23. Senior Cale Barr led the way for the Cats shooting an even par 71 in the final round to tie for fifth overall with a score of 215 (70-74-71). Junior Andy Winings turned in his second top-15 finish of the season, tying for 11th in the individual standings.
Kentucky will send Barr and Winings to compete this weekend, along with junior Ben Fuqua, sophomore Derek Oldham and freshman James Kania.
”We need a good showing this week,? said UK head coach Brian Craig. ?We are definitely due for something positive to happen with this team. Hopefully, this will be the start of these guys playing like they are capable and getting back on the right track.”
