LEXINGTON, Ky.– The University of Kentucky men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams opened their 2007-08 campaigns with an intrasquad Blue-White meet on Saturday.

Captained by Grant Nelson and Haleigh Kerns the Blue team took home the team title. The meet kicked off a weekend full of events as the team hosted its parents weekend. After dualing it out with their teammates the squad headed to the UK vs. LSU football game, where they watched their classmates knock off the No. 1 team in the land.

Kentucky begins their season with heightened expectations thanks to promising summers from a number of team members.

Senior Will Vietti enters his final campaign after having placed seventh in the nation in the 100-breaststroke at the ConcoPhillips National Championships. Junior Warren Grobbelaar topped the South African field in the 100-butterfly winning his national event. A total of eight swimmers reached Olympic time trial cuts this summer.

The UK women are coming off a season in which they finished a school-best 12th place at the NCAA Championships. Highlighting their year was the first-ever SEC Champion relay team when the 200-free team of Heather and Jenny Bradford, Nikia Deveaux and Lauren Willis finished ahead of the field in February.

The Blue and White’s dual meet season officially begins in Knoxville, Tenn. on Oct. 26. Kentucky will dual with Tennessee and South Carolina.
