LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The No. 29 Kentucky women?s tennis team (6-1 overall, 0-0 SEC) will hit the road to face No. 18 Clemson on Saturday Feb. 16 in Clemson, S.C. at 11 a.m. The Cats will then travel to Atlanta, Ga. to compete with No. 1 Georgia Tech on Sunday.
Kentucky has a 7-3 all-time record against Clemson. The two teams? last meeting was in 2006, where the Wildcats pulled off a 4-0 victory in the comforts of home at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex. The Tigers are coming off a 5-2 loss to No. 2 UCLA in Madison, Wis. Clemson is 3-4 for the season and looking to bounce back from a four-match losing streak.
The Wildcats will continue their road trip to Atlanta, Ga. for a match against No. 1 Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets are returning home from a sweep of the ITANational Team Indoor Championships where they knocked off then-No. 1 Stanford.
UK and Tech last met in 2006 with the Wildcats losing 6-1. Kentucky?s assistant coach Lyndsay Shosho was then a college senior on the other side of the net, winning both her singles and doubles matches to help the Jackets to victory.
Kentucky?s most recent opponents were Middle Tennessee and East Tennessee State. The matches took place in Lexington, Ky. at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex. The Cats had two solid wins, each 6-1, in the doubleheader on Saturday. Despite the wins, Kentucky fell one spot to No. 29 from last week?s rankings.
UK looks to improve their road winning record to complement their undefeated streak at home. The Wildcats are 0-1 on the road this season, losing only to then-No. 24 Indiana.
