LEXINGTON, Ky. ? After waiting 13 days to take the court in competition, the No. 54 University of Kentucky men?s tennis team visits Waco, Texas, Sunday to battle No. 11 Baylor University. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 pm ET at the Baylor Tennis Center.
The Wildcats are familiar with the Bears after sparring with many of them during the Charles Fluitt Invitational last fall. Currently ranked No. 36, Bruno Agostinelli battled three Bears en route to the final before falling to Baylor?s Denes Lukacs, now ranked No. 12, in a closely-contested final.
Will Ward joins Agostinelli in the singles rankings this week at No. 63 for the Cats. The senior earned the ranking with a 6-2 mark on the year including a straight-sets victory over then No. 98 David Rosenfeld of Miami. This weekend?s match marks a return to Ward?s former school where he played through spring 2006.
The Bears are currently riding an 18-match home win streak and are 8-2 after playing in the National Team Indoors at the University of Washington. In Seattle, Baylor defeated No. 35 Penn State after suffering its first losses of the season to No. 15 Oklahoma State and No. 8 North Carolina. The Bears boast two other ranked players alongside Lukacs, senior Lars Poerschke at No. 17 and junior David Galic at No. 57.
