Women's Tennis

LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The No. 22 UK women?s tennis team remains perfect at home after taking out the Kansas Jayhawks (2-4 overall, 0-0 conf.), 6-1, at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex Saturday afternoon. Kentucky improves to 8-2 for the season.

The two teams last met in 1989 with Kansas taking the win, 5-2. A determined Kentucky started out Saturday?s match by sweeping doubles. UK?s Sarah Woestmann and Whitney Spencer dominated their match, 8-1, over Kansas? Lauren Hommell and Maria Martinez.

The Wildcats? win streak continued throughout the singles matches. No. 79 Woestmann landed the fourth point for Kentucky, sealing the win. Woestmann won 6-3, 7-6(6), against KU?s Magdalena Tokarczyk. SEC Freshman of the Week No. 95 Megan Broderick played at the No. 2 position, beating out Jayhawk Elizaveta Avdeeva, 6-3, 6-4.

Kentucky held their undefeated steak at home against Kansas, and look to continue their perfection when they next face No. 30 South Florida (7-3, 0-1). UKis 3-1 all-time against USF and during their last encounter the Cats outdid the Bulls, 5-2. South Florida is 7-3 overall this season and looking to bounce back from a loss to Notre Dame, 6-1.
