LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The Kentucky Wildcats (1-7 overall, 1-5 SEC) will host a tri-meet Friday, March 7, at Memorial Coliseum which will include the No. 18 Arizona Wildcats (6-.3, 3-3 PAC 10) and Western Michigan Broncos (4-9, 3-5 MAC). The last home meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will showcase the Kentucky seniors and their careers as Wildcats.
Arizona most recently hit its season high score of 196.300 at home against Washington. Western Michigan?s last meet was at the Michigan State Invitational where the Broncos finished second with a score of 193.650.
Last time out, the Wildcats began the night with a solid 49.000 on vault, the team?s second best event. Sophomore Hillary Ferguson scored a personal career high on vault with a 9.900, winning second place overall and team top honors. This was her third score of 9.900 or better in two weeks. Sophomore Emily Green, who is ranked No. 20 on vault, hit a 9.875. On bars, the Cats tallied their second highest score of the season, a 48.375. Senior Crissy Cannon stuck a 9.800, a career best. The score won Cannon the first title of her career.
UK?s best rotation of the night was the floor exercise, on which they are nationally ranked No. 14. Junior Heather Hite won second place with a 9.900, falling short of Husker Emily Parson?s 9.925. Hite?s score tied her season high score which was first attained during a home meet against Alabama. Freshman Andrea Mitchell hit a career high score of 9.775 on floor.
Kentucky will host its final home meet of the 2008 season in Memorial Coliseum Friday March 7, at 7 p.m. against the No. 18 Arizona Wildcats and the Western Michigan Broncos in a tri-meet. In honor of Senior Night, the first 100 fans will receive FREE drawstring backpacks. Upon conclusion of the meet, the senior gymnasts will be signing autographs.
