LEXINGTON, Ky. ? Sophomore Hillary Ferguson, a Richmond, Ky. native, was named SEC Gymnast of the Week the league office announced Tuesday morning. She earned three titles this weekend and helped lead the team to a new season high score of 195.925, earned against then-No.15 Arizona and Western Michigan.
Ferguson has been a solid performer for Kentucky competing in the all-around. Her performance in the recent tri-meet earned her a career high all-around mark of 39.325, the second highest on the team this year. Ferguson has earned seven career titles, five of which were earned this season.
The Kentucky native?s most explosive performance has been on the floor exercise. She has earned three titles in 2008 for the event and holds five career floor titles. With an upbeat mix of funky to modern day beats, Ferguson entertains crowds as well as officials, boasting a high score of 9.925. Ferguson has secured the high mark twice this year, first at Georgia and then during Kentucky?s Senior Night against Arizona and Western Michigan. With Ferguson leading the team on floor during Friday?s meet, the Wildcats hit a season high 49.275 mark which ranks among the school?s top five totals.
The UK sophomore has also earned titles on the vault and uneven bars. Her first vault honor came during the recent tri-meet with Arizona and WMU when she landed a 9.875. Ferguson?s first bars title was won during a meet with then-No. 26 Ohio State in Columbus. She stuck a career high 9.875.
Ferguson?s impressive marks have secured her three number one positions on the team this season, bars (9.875), vault (9.9), and floor (9.925).
