FRESNO, Calif. ? Former Kentucky diver Taryn Ignacio has been tabbed as Fresno State?s head diving coach announced Wednesday. Ignacio joins the staff of Jeanne Fleck and will oversee four divers for the Bulldogs.

Ignacio, UK?s first National Champion, served as a volunteer assistant coach last season helping coach alongside Mike Lyden in his final season.

?I feel very honored to be hired and be a part of the Fresno State swimming and diving team,? Ignacio said. ?I?m really excited for the upcoming year, and I?m ready to build the program and put Fresno on the map.?

The native from Richmond, Ky., was an individual National Champion at Kentucky in 2006 on the platform event. Ignacio was a five-time SEC Champion, racking up more conference titles than any other athlete in the history of Kentucky swimming and diving program. Ignacio in her three seasons as a Wildcat earned SEC Diver of the Year for three consecutive seasons. The Richmond, Ky., native became just the second diver in the SEC to win back-to-back-to-back crowns on the platform event while setting school, SEC and NCAA records en route to her national title.

“Taryn was a critical part of our team as an athlete and as a coach,? said Kentucky coach Gary Conelly. ?It is incredibly satisfying to see Taryn moving into the coaching ranks at such a high level. I am sure she is gong to be just as successful of a coach as she was a diver. We wish her all the best and are excited at the prospect of seeing her upcoming successes.?

Ignacio was a five-time All-American while in the Blue and White. She still holds the UK records on the platform and one-meter springboard.
