LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky plays host to over 125 men’s tennis players from 22 schools scattered throughout the Southeast this weekend at the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Indoor Championships beginning Thursday and ending Monday with the Championships.
The tournament provides fans the opportunity to see over 25 ranked singles players and doubles tandems from the ITA pre-season polls. Players from 11 SEC schools will be in action this weekend.
Doubles play fills the docket all day on Thursday, with the first three rounds of action scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Boone Tennis Center. The 15th-ranked Wildcat duo of senior Bruno Agostinelli and sophomore Brad Cox are seeded second and will receive a first-round bye into the round of 32. Three other UK pairs will also be in action Thursday.
Singles play starts on Friday also at Boone as well as the Lexington Tennis Club. Kentucky boasts three seeded players in singles: # 4 Agostinelli (No. 19 nationally), # 17 Cox and freshman Eric Quigley also seeded at # 17.
On Saturday all tennis action will move to the Lexington Tennis Club to provide players, teams and fans better access to the matches during UK’s homecoming weekend festivities and football game later that evening.
Quarterfinal action resumes Sunday on campus at Boone before the tournament concludes on Monday with the singles semifinals and final as well as the doubles final. Live scoring updates will be provided on UKathletics.com starting with quarterfinal matches on Sunday.
