LEXINGTON Ky. – University of Kentucky top doubles tandem of senior Bruno Agostinelli and sophomore Brad Cox coasted into the quarterfinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Indoor Championships this weekend held at the home of the Wildcats at Boone Tennis Center.

The day was dedicated to doubles play and the Kentucky squads did not disappoint their fans.

The second-seeded and 15th-ranked Wildcat duo was one of the last teams to take the court on the opening day of competition, but quickly put away their first opponent, Matt Brewer and Bryan Swartz from Tennessee, 8-5, in the round of 32. The Wildcats capped off the evening of tennis in the last match of the day with similar results, defeating Filip Kricka and Maksim Levanovich of Stetson, 8-4.

The Wildcats continue doubles action Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. ET at Boone. The UK tandem will face Adam Baker and Alex Votov of Vanderbilt in a quarterfinal tussle. Should the Blue and White advance, they would play in the semifinals on Sunday at Boone.

After a first-round bye, UK sophomore Alberto Gonzalez and freshman Patrick Bandy paired up to defeat Peter Sauska and Pavel Vostrikov, 8-4 in a second round match to advance to the round of 16. In the third round, the Wildcats fought No. 5 seed Davey Sandgren and John-Patrick Smith of Tennessee in a tight match but came up short for a ticket to the quarters, falling 8-6.

Earlier in the day senior Shane Collins and sophomore Will Beck opened the day of competition with a first-round victory over South Florida’s Romain Deridder and Yannick Yoshizawa, 8-6. The pair met top-seeded Jamie Hunt and Nate Schrugg of Georgia in the second round, but the Bulldogs proved too much for the Wildcats, 8-4.

The UK true freshmen tandem of Alex Musialek and Eric Quigley served against Alabama’s Ricky Doverspike and Andrew Felsenthal in a second round match. The Wildcats opened with an early lead but fell down a break mid-way through the match. UK tied the match at seven-all after breaking back but could not hold on as the Crimson Tide rattled off the next two games for a 9-7 decision.

All Wildcats will be in action Friday to open singles play after the conclusion of the doubles quarterfinals. Players will take the court at Boone as well as the Lexington Tennis Club throughout the day.
