Fayetteville, Ark. – The UK women’s soccer team (3-10-2, 1-5-1 SEC) lost its fifth straight match Friday, dropping a 3-1 affair to the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks (10-5-0, 3-4-0).
After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Wildcats tied it at 1-1 in the 58th minute on a penalty kick by Laura Novikoff. The 6-3 sophomore was pulled down inside the Arkansas 18-yard box drawing the foul and the kick. Novikoff stepped up and connected on the attempt for her team leading sixth goal of the season.
Kentucky’s lead was short lived though as Lauren Hallauer connected in the 76th minute spotting the Lady Razorbacks a 2-1 lead.
Arkansas added a final goal for the final 3-1 margin in the 81st minute when Abbey Wilburn took a pass from Lindsay Patterson and connected on her second goal of the season.
The win by Arkansas snapped the Wildcats’ 10-match unbeaten streak in the series. The last time Kentucky lost to the Lady Razorbacks was in the 1994 season. The match also marked the first collegiate action for UK freshman goalie Laura Burton. Burton played the final 13 minutes, allowing a goal while recording a save.
The Cats now travel to Baton Rouge for a Sunday match against the 17th ranked LSU Tigers. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Fans can follow all the action at www.ukathletics.com.
