UT Martin Results | Morehead Results

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Led by junior All-American Tom Csenge’s match-best 592 in air rifle, the Kentucky rifle team posted a 4637-4508 win over UT Martin and a 4625-4544 win over Morehead State, on Sunday afternoon at UK’s Barker Hall.

Csenge, a junior and two-time All-American a year ago, led the way in UK’s win over UT Martin, pacing the club with team-highs in both guns, his 592 in air rifle and a 575 in smallbore – including a 198 in prone and a 193 in kneeling. Freshman Megan English tallied a 589 in air rifle and a 574 in smallbore, while junior Ashley Jackson posted a 589 in air rifle and a 574 in smallbore. Junior Leslie Angeli tallied a 573 on the air rifle team, while Logan Fox notched a 571 in smallbore and a dual-match best 199 in prone.

“Overall today, I was pleased with some of the scores we put up, but I certainly feel we could have had a few more points in smallbore,” head coach Harry Mullins said. “The team worked very hard. It was the first time that Logan (Fox) and Leslie (Angeli) shot on the blue team this year and I was very pleased with how well they reacted and came up to the challenge. They have been working hard in training this week and that it is starting to show.”

UK posted a win over Morehead State later in the day, with Ethan Settlemires leading the way with a solid performance. Settlemires, a freshman from Kossuth, Miss., posted a 588 in air rifle and a 580 in smallbore – highlighted by a 198 in prone. Jen Pason finished with a 586 in air rifle and a 575 in smallbore, while senior Andrew Roland earned a 584 in air gun and a 572 in smallbore, including a 197 in prone. Sophomores Clint Sejkora (572 in smallbore) and Sarah Broeker (568 in air rifle) rounded out the UK lineups against Morehead State.

“The team should be real proud of their performance this weekend,” Mullins said. “We just need to eliminate some of the weak points and we will be right back on track.”

UK outshot Morehead 2326-2281 in air rifle and a 2299-2263 in smallbore, while topping UT Martin with a 2294-2234 in smallbore and a 2343-2274 in air rifle.

“Air rifle is starting to come together as a group and we have had the potential to post some big numbers in air rifle,” Mullins said. “With a little more work we can start putting more 590’s on the board.”

Junior Jen Pason – the 2006-07 Great American Rifle Conference Rookie of the Year – finished with a 586 in air rifle and a 575 in smallbore, while Andrew Roland earned a 584 in air gun and a 572 in smallbore, including a 197 in prone. Clint Sejkora (572 in smallbore) and Sarah Broeker (568 in air rifle) rounded out the UK lineup against Morehead State.

“Now we have a week to get ready for Memphis and Army, both very good conference opponents,” Mullins detailed. “Then there is West Virginia the following weekend, so the next three matches will be conference matches and all three are very important to the outcome of the season.

“The team should be real proud of their performance this weekend. We just need to eliminate some of the weak points and we will be right back on track.”
