LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sophomore Victoria Dunlap (Nashville, Tenn.) was named to preseason All-Southeastern Conference second-team as selected by league coaches and announced by the conference office Wednesday. The league coaches also picked Kentucky to finish seventh in the standings.
Dunlap is Kentucky’s leading returning scorer and rebounder from last season. The 6-1 forward averaged 7.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. She ranked 12th in the SEC in rebounding and was the only freshman to rank in the top 12 of that category. She also led the team in steals with 43. She was named to the SEC-All Freshman Team and was selected SEC Freshman of the Week t here times.
Vanderbilt was predicted to win the SEC regular season championship with Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Florida rounding out the top half of the league. Kentucky, which finished fourth last season in the SEC with an 8-6 mark, comes in at seventh while Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Arkansas and Alabama round out the bottom half of the conference.
Points were compiled on an 11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis for order of prediction, while each player received two points for a first-team vote and one point for a second-team vote. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team or players.
This is the fifth-annual preseason All-SEC team for women’s basketball. The Wildcats have placed a member on a preseason all-SEC team in each of the five years.
