TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After an early close to the SEC Fall Coaches Classic Saturday night, the Kentucky women’s tennis team wrapped up their fall tournament season in Tuscaloosa, Ala., at  Alabama’s Hank Crisp Indoor Tennis Facility.

The Wildcats’ senior Carolina Escamilla advanced all the way to the gold flight championship against Florida Gator Joanna Mather. Escamilla put up a fight against the Gator, but lost in a three-set match. Mather took the first set, 6-2, while Escamilla rebounded with a 6-2 win of her own in the second, before dropping the third set to the Gator, 6-3.

UK’s No. 55 Megan Broderick knocked out No. 61 Naoko Ueshima of Georgia in the crimson back draw finals, 6-3, 6-2. In other back draw action, Kentucky freshman Jennifer Stone was toppled by the Volunteer’s Natalie Pluskota, 6-3, 6-2.

Following singles play, Stone and Broderick paired up on the court in doubles. The Wildcat duo defeated Gabriella Rangel and Soledad Podlipnik from Ole Miss, 8-4, in a consolation round.

The fall tournament featured players from 10 of the top-60 teams in the nation, according to the May 23 Fila/ITA ratings. Eight teams finished last season ranked in the country’s top-30.

The Blue and White will kick off the regular season Jan. 17, 2009, in Huntington, W. Va., facing the Marshall Thundering Herd.
