LEXINGTON, Ky. –
The Kentucky football team completed on-field preparations for the Vanderbilt game with a one-hour, 45-minute practice Thursday morning at the Nutter Training Facility.
After the workout, Coach Rich Brooks was asked if he had a feel for the team’s readiness for the upcoming contest.
“I’ve ‘read’ things one way, and then the other way … I’ve been in this business long enough to know that you get a read somewhere in the first quarter (laughter from media),” Brooks said.
Brooks also was asked about defending the Vanderbilt offense.
“The key to their offense starts with their quarterback, whoever it is, because both of them (Mackenzi Adams and Chris Nickson) are good runners and they throw the football,” Brooks said. “They base a lot of it off the speed option, running from the quarterback position and getting the ball in the hands of their playmakers.
“Adams has been a pretty good thrower, but I remember Nickson throwing the ball all over the place up here two years ago. They both do things that can hurt us. We just have to play better defense, more like the defense we played early in the year.
“Vanderbilt is a very, very physical team on both sides of the ball, so it’s going to take a great effort by us to match that.”
Kentucky (6-4 overall, 2-4 Southeastern Conference) plays host to Vanderbilt (5-4, 3-3) on Saturday at 8 p.m. in a game which will be televised on ESPN2. The game also can be seen on the internet on ESPN360.com.

Junior Varsity Game on Monday: Kentucky will play a junior-varsity football game against Fork Union Military College on Mon. Nov. 17 at noon in Commonwealth Stadium.
- Admission is free and fans should enter through gates 3 and 9.
- Free parking is available in the southwest portion of the blue lot outside gates 9 and 10.
- Fans should not park in the blue lot adjoining the Nutter Field House.
The UK junior varsity is comprised of scholarship players and walk-ons who have not played in every regular-season game this year. The JV game counts toward the 12 regular-season games in which a player may participate; therefore, players who have played in every regular-season game will not participate. Players who are going through redshirt seasons may not participate; the JV game counts as a game played, which would preclude a player from having a redshirt year.
