SIESTA Key, Fla. – A few weeks ago the Kentucky volleyball team participated in the second annual SEC Coaches Beach Volleyball Championships hosted in conjunction with the Fiesta on Siesta Key tournaments.
Kentucky sent five teams to the tournament and had tremendous success. The duo of Sarah Rumely and Sarah Mendoza advanced into the semi-finals of the GOLD division– the top flight.
Every squad won a match in the sand and every team also advanced into the second round of their bracket.
“It was an exceptional day for UK volleyball and the SEC in Siesta Key,” said UK assistant coach Chris Beerman. “The tournament setting was beautiful and organizers created a beach tournament environment that was first class. Having trained for only a week and only having one day in the sand before the tournament, our players represented themselves extremely well. All of our players won pool play matches and our Gold pool representatives, Sarah Rumely and Sarah Mendoza made it all the way to the semi-finals. All in all, the tournament was a huge success and our players improved during the day and grew immensely from the experience.”
