Lexington, Ky. – In an effort to set a new school record of 5,000 season tickets for the 2009-10 season, the Kentucky women’s basketball team will hold a 5K run/walk called the “5K for 5K” on Saturday, June 27 at 8:30 a.m. ET. The race is set to begin and end at Memorial Coliseum.

All new or returning season ticket holders who purchase and/or renew season tickets by the extended registration of Wednesday, June 24 will receive one free entry to the race for each of their season tickets. Please note there will be no walk up registration on the day of the race.

The event will be one of five during the summer and fall to help break the current season ticket record of 4,808 set in 2005-06. The entire season ticket campaign is called “Drive for 5K.”

“We are so excited for the 5K for 5K race next weekend,” UK Coach Matthew Mitchell said. “We already have over 200 runners signed up and Coach Cal has agreed to help us by being the honorary starter of the race. It’s going to be an awesome day and Jenna and I can’t wait to run with our fans.”

Overall male and female winners will receive lower level tickets for themselves and a guest to this season’s Big Blue Madness on Oct. 16.

Age group winners (14 and under; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60+) will receive a Nike gift pack, a winner’s medal, and a VIP package for a women’s basketball game for the 2009-10 season.

Each entrant also will receive a commemorative race t-shirt. The day will feature interaction with the women’s basketball players and coaches as well as entertainment, food, and activities for families and children.

Season tickets cost just $45 for 17 exciting home games in Memorial Coliseum. This year’s schedule, which will be completed and released later this summer, is highlighted by matchups against first-time opponent Boston University in the season opener on Nov. 13 and intrastate rival Louisville on Dec. 20. The Southeastern Conference schedule also will feature eight home games compared to seven in previous years, as the league has adopted a 16-game slate beginning in the 2009-10 season.

Fans interested in becoming new season ticket holders may go to UKathletics.com and click on the “5K for 5K” button on the front page. Order forms also may be picked up at the Athletics Ticket Office at the Joe Craft Center. For ticket questions call the UK ticket office at 1-800-928-CATS.

Current season ticket holders should have received a renewal form in the mail but those who do not wish to renew at this time will still be able to do so during the normal renewal process in August. Seat locations will not be assigned until renewals have been completed. Anyone wishing to just enter the race, but not purchase a season ticket, may do so for just $20.
