LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior Megan Broderick of the University of Kentucky’s women’s tennis team has started her summer schedule of tennis tournaments. The Tampa, Fla., native most recently reached the semifinals of the Via Christi Women’s 10k in Wichita, Kansas.

Broderick was paired with Anastasia Kharchenko from Ukraine for doubles play. The duo knocked off two American tandems on their way to the semi’s but fell to the No. 1 seed, Sabrina Capannolo and Elizabeth Lumpkin, also from the United States. Broderick and her partner were defeated 6-2, 6-3 by the eventual tournament runner-up.

Earlier in the day Broderick and Kharchenko had picked off Neha Uberoi and Nikita Uberoi in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. The pair then defeated Courtney B. Dolehide and Stephanie Hoffpauir, 7-6(5), 2-6, 10-7 to advance to the semifinals.

Broderick also competed in singles, advancing to the finals of the qualifying round. After earning a bye in the round of 64, Broderick defeated Chelsea Orr in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. In the qualifying finals Broderick faced Breaunna Addison who advanced to the main draw with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over the Wildcat.

Broderick will be competing in two more tournaments in July. Next up is the ITA at Florida State July 8-10 followed by a USTA 10k tournament in Atlanta, Ga., July 13.
