Seth Blann Drains Birdie Putt to win 2009 Western Kentucky Open

Sinking a key birdie putt on the par-4 18th hole, Kentucky golf freshman Seth Blann claimed a one-shot victory and clinched the 2009 Western Kentucky Open on Aug. 1, at Drake Creek Golf Club in Ledbetter, Ky.

Blann, a native of Bowling Green, Ky., shot a 138 6-under-par for the tournament, 3-under-par 69 both days, to claim the tournament title. Blann’s 69 on day one of the tournament was the second lowest round of the tournament for amateurs.

Blann will be a freshman on the UK golf team this year after redshirting last season. Blann is one of five freshmen on this year’s Kentucky team, three newcomers and two redshirts, who are expected to bring depth to the Kentucky squad.
