BERLIN – Returning University of Kentucky track and field All-Americans Rondel Sorrillo and Jenna Martin will compete on the world stage next week at the International Association of Athletics Federations World Championships Aug. 15-23, in Berlin, Germany.
Sorrillo will represent Trinidad and Tobago in the men’s 200m dash heats beginning Tuesday, Aug. 18. Should the rising senior advance, the quarterfinals would take place later that evening. Sorrillo is seeded among the world’s best with a personal best time of 20.43. Last season, Sorrillo set both the indoor and outdoor 200m dash varsity records at UK and earned an All-America in both events.
Martin will represent Canada in the women’s 4x400m relay. A rising junior, Martin and her teammates begin competition next Saturday, Aug. 22 with the preliminary heats. Should the Canadian team advance, she would carry the baton in the final the following day. Martin holds both the indoor and outdoor 400m dash varsity records at Kentucky and was named to the indoor All-America team in 2008.
