AUSTIN, TEXAS – The offense was still hard to come by for the Kentucky women’s soccer team (2-2-2) as they were able to manage only four shots, in dropping a 2-0 decision to the Texas Longhorns (3-3-0).
UK was unable to manage a shot on goal for the second time this season, with no Wildcat player accounting for more than one shot.
“Scoring goals and having chances on goal are all about attitude and heart,” said UK head coach Jon Lipsitz. “Until the players make the decision individually to be special in the attack, the group as a whole won’t be special in the attack. We’ll continue to work to gain a personality in the attack and to find a player that has that attacking personality.
“Texas is a very good team, well coached. When you go on the road to play, you have to have extra attitude and fight and we’re still looking for that.”
The Wildcats allowed their first goal in 306 minutes when Kylie Doniak took a pass from Amanda Lisberger and fired a shot from just inside the 18-yard box to the right of UK goalie Sydney Hiance in the 15th minute.
The Longhorns became the first team to record multiple goals on the season against the UK defense when Erin Child flicked a volley over to Stephanie Gibson, who headed the ball to Kirsten Birkhold who chipped the ball in for the 2-0 UT lead.
Katie Fahey, Laura Novikoff, Giuleana Lopez and Alyssa Telang all recorded a shot each for UK while Jenna Goblirsch, Julie Hull, Ashley Stack and Telang all played the entire 90 for Kentucky.
The Wildcats return home next weekend to host Western Kentucky and Tennessee Tech in the University of Kentucky Tournament.
