ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team (0-2, 0-0 SEC) travels to Atlanta, Ga., Jan. 30-31 for the ITA Kick-off Weekend. Taking on No. 24 Alabama (2-0, 0-0 SEC) Saturday at 9 a.m. EST, the Wildcats will then face host No. 10 Georgia Tech (2-0) or Arizona State (2-0) on Sunday.

The tournament, formally known as the ITA National Indoors Championship Qualifier, consist of four teams seeded one-to-four with the one seed (Georgia Tech) playing the four (Arizona State) and the two seed (Kentucky) playing the three seed (Alabama). Sunday’s schedule of play includes a 9 a.m. EST consolation match and 2:30 p.m. championship. The champion will be invited to play in the Feb. 12-15 ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

Last weekend, the Wildcats travelled to Minneapolis, Minn. to take on Minnesota and North Carolina. Kentucky dropped both matches, losing to Minnesota 4-3 and North Carolina 6-1.

Junior Megan Broderick, the No. 1 singles seed for the Wildcats, took Kentucky’s lone victory against North Carolina. Broderick posted a 7-5, 3-6, (10-2) win against the Tar Heels’ No. 100 Katrina Tsang. Against Minnesota, Broderick served as the matches deciding point, but ultimately fell to Alessandra Ferrazzi 6-4, 6-1.

Also in Minneapolis, at No. 3, sophomore Caroline Lilley dropped the first set to Alexa Palen 6-2, but came back to take the final set 6-2 and the super tiebreaker 10-3. Junior Lauren Meier took Kentucky’s second point at No. 4, defeating Jackie Sperling in straight sets. Meier won the match 6-4, 7-6.

Sophomore Minnette Pienaar nabbed the third point of the night for the Wildcats. Dropping the first set 7-6, Pienarr stormed back to take the second set 6-2 and the super tiebreaker 10-7.

Next, the Wildcats travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio State, with the matched slated for Feb. 3 at 12 p.m. EST.
