LEXINGTON, Ky. — When Kentucky upset No. 2 Virginia, currently ranked No. 1, and snapped the Cavaliers 63-match regular-season winning streak, it was a signature win for the program.  It joined a long list of historic triumphs for the UK tennis program.

Twice the Wildcats have upset the No. 1 team in the country.  In 1989 and 1997, UK upset the No. 1 National Indoor team.  In 1989, UK was led in the upset by Adam Malik and Richard Binson.

In 1997, UK upset of the greatest collegiate teams of all time, Stanford.  Stanford fielded a team consisting of Ryan Wolters, Paul Gottstein, and Bob and Mike Bryan.  After losing the doubles point (although Kauffmann and Ludde Sundin defeated the Bryans in doubles) UK rallied behind a victory at No. 1 singles by Kauffmann, No. 6 by Dan Spaner, No. 3 by Marcus Fluitt over Bob Bryan, and clinched at No. 4 with Carlos Drada over Mike Bryan.
