NEW ORLEANS – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team stands 19th entering the final round of the Tiger/Wave Classic held at English Turn Golf and Country Club (6,132 yards, par 72) after carding a second-round 326 Saturday.
Freshman Ashleigh Albrecht recorded a 6-over-par 78 to lead the Wildcats in the second round. Kentucky’s low scorer in the first round with a 74, Albrecht entered the second day in a tie for 16th and remains in the position entering the final day.
Fellow freshman Heather Lott turned in an 83 to enter the third round with a 159. Sophomore Ashlee Rose posted the second-lowest round of the day with an 80. Rose also registered an 80 on the first day and currently stands as the third-lowest Wildcat scorer.
Senior Kristin Vincent carded an 85 Saturday, while freshman Betsie Johnson rounded out Kentucky’s five with a 92.
A 54-hole event hosted by LSU and Tulane, the Wildcats are set to play 18 holes each day. Kentucky returns to competition Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. EST shotgun start.
At the 2009 LSU Golf Classic, Kentucky capped off a record-breaking performance with an eighth-place finish. The Cats fired an 880 (293-299-288) at the event, marking the lowest three-round total for the squad under Myra Blackwelder’s direction. The third-round 288 stands as the second-best single round in school history.
Joining Kentucky at the Tiger/Wave Classic are Arkansas, Auburn, College of Charleston, Furman, Georgia, Louisville, LSU, Mississippi State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, North Carolina-Wilmington, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Purdue, Tennessee, TCU, Tulane, UCF, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Wake Forest.
